February Newsletter

Pastor Kevin George February 15th, 2007

The month of February has been a month of awakenings. I was asked to preach at a little church located down a small dirt road. After arriving there, I noticed that they had no electricity as a matter of fact, no one in the neighborhood had electricity. We got out and went into the church, they where singing and rejoicing paying no attention to the fact that there was no power to light the place. As I got ready to preach, the pastor of the church brought in a few battery operated lights and put them close to the podium so it wouldn’t be so difficult to see, however they didn’t provide much light, not enough to clearly see what was needing to be said. Luckily I had a small flashlight and was able to put it to good use. I started up and then the Lord took over.

I learned that it doesn’t matter if there are lights in the building or if your just using a small flashlight to read the word of God, if you put your heart into it and just start rejoicing in the Lord, then he will do the rest. The next night was practically the same, I was invited to preach at an outdoor service, thankfully enough we had a generator that ran power to everything and it was a blessing because a lot more people had shown up to this service so we really needed the microphone to work. As this month continued I was able to get involved in more feeding stations. My heart breaks every time we go to one of the feeding stations, there are so many people who depend on these feeding stations to be there and to have enough food for them to get full off of. The feeding stations are mainly focused on feeding the children, but anyone is welcome.

God Bless these children and I pray that the feeding stations will always be operating and taking care of the needs of these wonderful children. I thank God for the fact that Christway Church, my home church back in Louisiana is taking care of the cost to build up another feeding station. The needs are so great and there are so many children. The Lord has really broke my heart for these people. The country is so poor, but a lot of the people are really rich in spirit, many blessing to them who store up there riches in heaven. Just a few weeks ago I was also able to be witness to a large number of people giving there lives over to the Lord and go through with water baptism. We all loaded up on buses and in the back of trucks then drove to the river where we baptized all those who where making that commitment before the Lord.

The month of February is also the month of my birthday, it was the first time I spent my birthday outside of the United States and I wouldn’t have had it any other way, one of my friends decided to plan a surprise party for me so I would feel more at home here. Believe me, I had no idea that he was doing that. He picked me up and brought me to a house and all the lights where off, I didn’t think anything of it because its not unusual for us to go somewhere and the lights be out. Well I walked in and as soon as I did, the lights came on, everyone yelled surprise and then I was covered in powder. It was a crazy and fun time, I thank God everyday for calling me here to the country of Nicaragua. At first I said to myself, I will be here three months and that’s all, but God has really done a work on my heart and I feel I will be here a lot longer than that. With feeding stations being built and the work that’s being done at the orphanage, I would be a fool to leave this. My request is, that anyone reading this news letter will say a prayer for the people of Nicaragua, and pray for the strength of those that the Lord has called to serve the people in this land.
